During this COVID crisis I have been sending out little life hacks and ways to improve your habits and possibly emerge a better version of yourself. WELL this week I’m going to get a little more REAL with you! You can ask my children or any team I coach…I do not sugar coat the truth and sometimes we need to hear some harsh reality sprinkled with grace.
Some people see the thing they want, and some people see the thing that is preventing them from getting what they want!
Read that again and let it sink in for a second…
You can be creative, you can break societal rules, you can get what you want…BUT you will never get what you want making excuses, blaming the outside and looking at the road blocks on your path!
Sometimes YOU ARE THE PROBLEM,
But YOU ARE also the ONLY SOLUTION!!!
You can take all the credit in the world for the things you do right…as long as you take responsibility for the things that you do wrong! It must be a balanced equation…you don’t get to have it all one way!!! Take accountability for your actions!
Sounds easy to say…BUT THIS IS NOT EASY to do!
1. You MUST have a VISION
Your vision, your goal has to be COMPELLING. It must have the power to PULL YOU, not push you. This is not something that you must push yourself to do! Constantly pushing yourself requires will power and will power does not last long term. This vision must pull you, inspire you, excite you!
2. You MUST have strong enough reasons for this goal or vision for when the road gets tough.
Challenges are inevitable and without strong reasons (your DEEP COMPELLING WHY), you will not find ways around the moments when the ‘honeymoon phase’ is over. Fear and laziness won’t take over if you have strong enough reasons!
These reasons can be both negative and positive…for example:
i. If I don’t do this, it will cost me…???
ii. If I do this, I will gain…???
If you have a strong enough WHY, you will do things others won’t do! When most people would give up, you will not, you will keep going and succeed! Your reasons, your WHY must be big enough to push you past your fears and momentary feelings, especially when your initial vision pull gets challenged.
You can want to change, you can wish to change, but unless you actually execute your plan nothing will ever change in your life! We are all given the same amount of time each day, stop making excuses, stop blaming outside forces, hold yourself accountable, make a plan, and DO IT!!!
